Carter: "Cleaning clothes on the floor."

Mamaw Peat: "Cleaning off the porch?"

Carter (louder): "Cleaning clothes on the floor ."

Mamaw Peat: "Cleaning out her drawers?"

Carter (shouts): "Cleaning clothes on the floor!"

Mamaw Peat: "Cleaning up some corn? Oh, good, y'all can eat fresh corn tonight!"

5-year-old Carter, shrugging his shoulders with sadness, walks into the next room where his mother is and gives the telephone to her.

Carter (with tears in his eyes): "I sure wish Mamaw Peat could hear me better when I try to talk to her."

This is a real text of a phone call that took place with a patient of mine.
